Early baits had front and rear props reversed so they turned in different directions, that was later changed. Turn it upside down and look at positioning of painted eye to front hook hanger, older baits eye is closer to hook, the newer it is the closer the eye moved toward the front of lure. This is a good test on 3H baits, will not always hold with smaller lures with fewer hooks. Very early baits had round eyes. Some paint patterns were only found on early baits. Eye color IMO is more a factor of body color. More recent production (Pradco era) has no writing on the bait.
