Herbert Thomas was owner of Southern Bait Company. He moved his small operation from Mineola, FL to Daytona Beach in the late 1930s and hired Richard Porter to be his general manager. Porter was VP of Dixie Bait Company at the same time. Both businesses operated out of Porter's Garage at 141 Third Ave in Daytona Beach. Thomas moved his bait making operations to his back yard in nearby Ormond Beach, FL within a year or two.
