I understand where you're coming from, but the in-person format for our Sportsmen’s Auction is quite different from the typical online auctions. We’re often dealing with larger items - things like motors, mounts, framed prints, canoes, large box lots and full tackle boxes, etc., where the expense to ship them would end up being much more than the item sells for. It just wouldn't make sense for buyers to get hit with huge shipping costs. And we’ve found that those attending the auction are very aware they’re saving on shipping, which routinely translates into extra bids and a higher price realized for the consignor.

A lot of folks who come to this auction also really enjoy the experience. They love catching up with old friends and making a weekend out of it. That camaraderie adds to the fun and brings people back season after season. Plus, when someone makes the trip, they’re ready to buy, usually spending considerably more than they planned. That’s obviously great for the consignors as well.

We keep this heavily attended auction format because it works for the buyers and the sellers, and we get a ton of positive feedback after every auction from both. It’s just part of the tradition Bob Lang started, and we’re happy to keep it going.
